A passport is a government valid travel document. This is been used for international travel. A passport is a valid certificate that confirms the identity and nationality of the carrier. A passport is a small booklet that contains the passport holder's name, birthplace, birth date, date of the issue date of expiry, passport number, holder's photo, and signature.
There are 3 kinds of passport - They're ordinary, diplomatic & official passport. An ordinary passport is issued to all private citizens. The other two kinds of passports are only allotted to government officials and diplomats for overseas travel purposes or official work.
Any person having Indian citizenship is eligible to get an Indian passport. To obtain citizenship one needs to be born in that country. If you are born outside, then it is mandatory to have one Indian parent or by being granted citizenship by the country via any naturalization process.
You need to report your issue in the police station or can apply for a Passport re-issue/Passport renewal service if your Passport is being expired, lost, or stolen.
According to the Government policy, it takes 30 days to issue a passport from the date of application. But in most cases, it is received earlier.

The documents needed to submit in case of Lost/Damaged Passport are as followed,
- Affidavit with details of how a passport got damaged or was lost (Annexure 'L')
- No Objection Certificate (ON(Annexure 'M') /Prior Intimation Letter (Annexure 'N')
- Current address (proof) /Address Proof /Identity Proof
- Police report (FIR)
- Semi-literate or literate applicants: Affidavit is sworn before a notary stating the place and date of birth (Annexure 'A')
- Photocopy of the first and last pages of the old passport (ECR/Non-ECR page), if available (optional)
- Passport-size photographs
Yes, you can cancel and reschedule your appointment 2 times in the same year of the first appointment date. In our Passport Seva online portal provide you easy rescheduling your PSK visit.
PSK is known for Passport Service Kendra – which is a passport office, from which you can get information about your passport or apply for a new or renewal of your existing passport. There are many PSK offices all across India.
If in case you've lost your passport during traveling abroad or have relocated to a foreign country permanently, then you can apply for a new or re-issue Indian passport. Indian Embassies, Consulates, and High Commissions are entitled to do that.
The timings are between 9.30am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
